Hi, I’m Andrea Bueno-Acosta, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate at Foundations Family Therapy in Fuquay and Raleigh.

Helping Children Thrive

Are you worried about your child? Has your child experienced trauma or loss? Are you a parent who doesn’t know what to do anymore? Does your child seem to be struggling with anxiety or depression? Unsure what that even looks like in a young child? Is your child complaining of body aches, stomach aches or head aches frequently when there’s no medical reason? Has your child recently had a big transition such as a parents separation, move, or starting school? These can be scary things to see in our children, but there is hope and help!  

I love working with children who are between 4-8 years old because they are creative, playful, and lots of fun! I see my role as a facilitator of play with your child in a way that helps us process their world and things they have experienced. I love being able to help positively support these developing skills while addressing presenting concern. Play is a child's language, and toys are their words; therefore, I work best with kiddos who enjoy interacting with an adult while utilizing toys and art materials.

Seeing the Strengths in our Children

I want to partner with parents to show you the great strengths your child possesses and some ways to work with them to help them thrive even more. Every child has strengths, imagination and creativity that I like to harness in the counseling room to help them grow and thrive. We often hear our children say “I can’t do it. You do it”, “Can you play with me?”, or our favorite “NO!”. Children often lack the language and brain development to process things the way adults do so play is their language. I want to help your child process and express themselves in the most appropriate and healthy ways! 

Together we can create goals that you are passionate about and I can use my expertise to guide you and cheer on your child. Your child deserves to be heard, understood and supported in their “best language”. I will use my expertise to communicate well and teach you to do the same to achieve lasting results. 

Who I Am

I have experience working with elementary school students and young children in a residential treatment facility. Most of my clients experienced significant trauma, loss, anxiety, and low self worth. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and am currently working on my Registered Play Therapy credential. I got my master’s degree from Appalachian State University.  I am excited to be joining the Foundations Family Therapy team.

I specialize in young children utilizing play therapy and helping parents learn and connect with their children in developmentally appropriate ways.

I am in network with BCBS and accept affordable private pay rates.

The Fun Stuff

I just moved from Boone to the triangle in the fall of 2021 with my husband and infant daughter. When I’m not parenting or working, I can be found either lifting weights in the gym, reading a thriller novel outside a coffee shop, or relaxing at the park. I love spending time outdoors with my family or hanging out at any nearby cat cafes!

My favorite barista order is a chai latte with oat milk!
