DAN HOPKINS
Helping men and couples thrive in Fuquay Varina!
Are you a man feeling tired of feeling angry, numb, anxious or depressed? Are you tired of struggling in your relationships or dealing with past traumas that still haunt you? I know that there is a stigma attached to therapy, especially with men. Many times the themes of our childhood of “be tough” or “boys don’t cry” can make an imprint on men as adults. Often women in your life might notice that things seem different but are often met with “I don’t want to talk about it.”.
Are you struggling with anger, depression, apathy, lack of motivation, anxiety, or relationship issues? Do you feel like you can’t say anything because you have to hold everything together? Do you often think about what it would be like to live a different life? Do you struggle with feeling irritable or on edge? Do you frequently escape with alcohol, video games, sports, drugs or pornography? Are you struggling with a transition in your life such as having a child or a new job? I get it. You are not alone!
Helping Couples Thrive
Are you tired of the same negative patterns in your relationship? Are you totally at a loss of what to do? Has your marriage suffered betrayal, hurt, lack of trust or grief? Feeling more like roommates than friends and spouses? Think that there must be something more to marriage? I’d love to help! There is and there is great hope for your relationship.
I frequently use Gottman and Emotionally Focused Therapy techniques with couples that I work with. I find that those therapy models often lend themselves to great results and increased intimacy and connection for couples.
Helping Families Thrive!
Feeling like your whole family could use a tune up? Did your family suffer a tragedy? Do you have a lot of “big feelings” around your house? I love working with whole families to find healing and systemic change!
How Therapy Can Help!
There is hope! Counseling can help you identify unhealthy thought and behavior patterns that are limiting you. Therapy can give you practical strategies to practice to reduce negative symptoms. Therapy gives you an ally to process and be yourself with. In therapy, you will have an intake session where we hear about your history and what’s going on now that has brought you to counseling. Then, we will work with you to create a treatment plan to help you reduce the negative symptoms and improve the quality of your life. We aim to get at the root of the problem and give you tools to solve it!
A Little About Me
I grew up in a small town in New Hampshire where I lived until college. I have been living with my wife in Lynchburg, VA until moving to Raleigh in fall of 2022. I attended Liberty University and have my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. I love to incorporate Christian counseling when appropriate and desired by my clients. I hope to be a licensed LMFTA by January of 2023.
The Fun Stuff
I like weight lifting, being outdoors, listening to music and hanging out with my family and friends in my free time. I like all types of music from pop to rock to alternative. I am a self proclaimed “foodie” and if I had lots of money I would try every restaurant in the area! The best book I’ve read recently is the Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer.
