JAMES PITTMAN

Biblical Counselor

Hi, I'm James. I'm a pastoral counselor and marriage and family therapy student at Foundations Family Therapy in Fuquay-Varina.

Relationship Rough Patches

No matter if you’re about to be married, newly married, or you’ve been married for years, relationships are hard - mixed inside the joy and security lies plenty of rough patches. Anyone who says partnerships are easy is probably single!

All sorts of things can get in the way of your fairytale. A lack of communication, boundaries, changing perceptions of the future, blocks in intimacy, money problems, and trust issues commonly crop up. And they’re not very subtle when they do!

I’m available to help you get your union back on track and flourishing. I strive to serve as an objective advocate, an active listener, and a caring counselor who can offer you practical advice on making your pact powerful and lasting.

The College Conundrum

In addition to couples, I often work with college-aged men. College is an important time of growth and excitement, but it comes with adversity, obstacles, and other stressors.

You may be experiencing trouble with time-management and find it difficult to balance your thriving social life with your social science courses. Or perhaps you’re up against the financial challenges of tuition, books, room, board, and the obligatory fun.

Maybe your academic load or the increased responsibilities are proving burdensome. Perhaps you’re finding the transition from childhood to adulthood to be more than you bargained for. Maybe you’re facing a difficult professor or a roommate who thinks hygiene is optional.

Whether you’re looking for ways to help yourself or you’re simply hoping to find yourself, I am committed to acting as your guide.

Together, we can plan, participate, and prosper. Let’s figure out what works for YOU and your individual needs and desires.

Navigating college is about finding your center - I’m here, level in hand.

What I Can Do for You

If you’re in need of couple’s counseling, individual guidance during life transitions, or you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, and other problematic emotions, I’m ready to walk with you, side-by-side. I rely on an integrationist approach as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that focuses on client-centered solutions.

I currently serve as a pastor at the Summit Church in North Raleigh and I’m in the middle of becoming a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist by completing my master’s degree at the Southeastern Theology Seminary.

My nine years of pastoral and counseling experience with adults, young professionals, and college students - as well as my work with international students in South Africa, India, and Thailand - provide me with an eclectic insight that I will use to assist you in the best way possible.

I grew up in North Carolina and I’ve lived here most of my life. I’m married with two sons and, when not working, I enjoy golf, hunting, and spending time with my family. I think the “great” outdoors is an undersell: Nature is spectacular.
