MELISSA FREEMAN
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Hi, I’m Melissa Freeman, Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Foundations Family Therapy in Raleigh.
Healing and Rebuilding After Trauma
Do you long for the person you or your child used to be? Have you experienced something or a lifetime of things that you wouldn’t wish on anyone else? Have you experienced something that you never thought affected you until recently? Have past struggles and trauma affected your ability to care for yourself and others? Are you struggling with flashbacks, hypervigilance, traumatic memories, or nightmares? Are you frustrated with yourself that you just “can’t get over” it? Do you compare your life to others and think “I should be happy” or “It wasn’t that bad?” Many people are silently struggling with traumas. There is hope, and there is help. You do not have to live in this prison any longer.
I see my role as a therapist to empower you to live the life you deserve. I partner with each client to assess where they are, hear your story, teach you the necessary skills, and validate your feelings. You matter, your story matters, and your future matters. I want to work with you to rewrite your past and write a better future. I want to be a safe space for you to be vulnerable and accepted.
Parenting is hard!
Are you a parent who is struggling to advocate for your child? Has your child experienced a traumatic event? Do you feel like no one is hearing you? Childhood trauma and mental health matters! I see you parents, trying your best. I see you single moms. I see you families fostering children. I see you mothers with broken homes or working hard to get your children back in your home. I am here for you! You matter! Your children matter!
Parenting is hard and there’s no one size fits all. Together we can brainstorm and learn new strategies for helping you and your children thrive at home. If you are a foster parent in need of support, I can relate and want to support you!
So Who Am I?
I went to Appalachian State University and East Carolina University for undergrad and graduate school and am now a licensed clinical social worker. I am from the triangle and lived in Boone, NC for several years before moving back to the Triangle in 2021. I have 2 sons that my husband and I adopted through the foster care system in 2020 and am expecting my first daughter in July 2021.
I have experience working with children and families including biological parents, and foster parents who are engaged with the North Carolina Child Welfare system in a variety of roles working as an investigations, in-home services and foster care social worker, as a cottage parent in a local residential foster home, and as a licensed clinical social worker providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to children and families. I also have experience working in Psychiatric Triage completing mental health and substance abuse assessments for individuals of all ages experiencing crisis. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and expressive arts in my work, I hope to offer a place of healing to create opportunities for change. I am recognized by the North Carolina Treatment Program as a certified provider of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In addition to this, I am recognized as a Certified Provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy by the developers of this evidenced based practice. I also provide parenting support for parents of children (birth to 12 years old) with moderate behavioral difficulties using Triple P Primary Care - Level 3.
The Fun Stuff
I love to spend time with my family and dogs outside! I love to clog, play the french horn and work out. My favorite order from Starbucks is an Iced Passion Tango Tea. I am excited to be back in the triangle area to be closer to family.
If you or your child is looking for a caring, compassionate therapist to sort through life, please reach out. I am offering sessions in Raleigh and online throughout North Carolina. I am in network with most major insurances and accept private pay.
